Still Fighting

This year, AVP has lost critical funding that impacts the scope of free services we can provide to LGBTQ+ survivors – the resources are going down, but the need is going up. And we’re still here, still queer, and still showing up for our people.

Our goal from now through Pride is to:

  • 1,000 new monthly donors so we have a steady $30,000 in recurring monthly donations. Monthly donations in any amount ensure AVP’s ability to provide reliable and responsive free services to LGBTQ+ survivors.
  • An additional $150,000 in individual donations to support AVP’s emergency strategy fund, which will ensure that we can respond to new challenges without interruption.

An AVP Win: Keeping ICE out of Rikers

In Mid-May, AVP filed an amicus brief in support of the New York City Council’s lawsuit challenging Executive Order 50, which permits U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be present on Rikers Island despite NYC’s longstanding sanctuary laws.

AVP’s Director of  Legal Services, Leslie Allen,  gave a statement celebrating the City Council for upholding our Sanctuary City Policy and keeping ICE out of Rikers.
