Organize with Us
Take action with AVP today and participate in movements for justice. There are many ways to get involved and ensure that your voice is heard in the LGBTQ anti-violence movement.
Community Action Committees
AVP’s Community Action Committees (CAC) are a place for AVP community members to come together, build community, and engage in local campaigns. Our CAC’s meet twice a month and work to address issues of hate violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence and institutional violence in LGBTQ & HIV-affected communities in New York City. We strive to center individuals who are directly impacted by violence. Become a community member today!
Rapid Incident Response
AVP works with survivors of violence along with their communities to create dialogue, conduct outreach, plan vigils, and create communications strategies after experiences of violence. The hope is to inform the community about the incident, educate LGBTQ people on how to stay safe, prevent incidents in the future, and call for accountability in the aftermath of violent incidents. Join us as we respond to the next incident of violence.
Right to Know Act
AVP is a proud member of Communities United for Police Reform (CPR), a citywide coalition of over 30 organizations working to end discriminatory policing practices in New York City. We are currently organizing to pass the Right to Know Act which will help increase accountability of the NYPD and decrease violence in police interactions. Join us at an upcoming lobby day, outreach to City Council Members or attend a Know Your Rights Training.
Bar Safety
Join AVP activists in the nightlife scene across New York City providing safety resources and training to bar patrons and staff in LGBTQ+ owned and LGBTQ+ friendly spaces. We also provide training and technical assistance for LGBTQ+ nightlife venues on safety planning and community-safety for your spaces and events. Learn more at our Bar Safety page.
