Letter to the Community: Announcing “Our Pride, Our Safety”

Join AVP’s Community-Led Safety Campaign During Pride Season!

To our Beloved AVP Community,

This Pride Season we’re excited to launch Our Pride, Our Safety, a new campaign to spotlight violence affecting our most vulnerable and build awareness about the importance of community-led safety.

Incidents of violence, including police violence, continue to disproportionately impact our community, especially those who are BIPOC and/or transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, immigrants, people who are low-income and others marginalized in our society.

Community-led safety means uniting us as LGBTQ people to determine what we need to be safe and working together to keep each other safe.

AVP is an expert in upstander intervention and de-escalation training. This year we’re thrilled to showcase community-led safety models at Pride celebrations throughout the city to demonstrate that it is possible to create and implement new approaches for safety and protection.

We welcome you to become a part of our movement to transform safety for LGBTQ people this Pride season. There are many opportunities for everyone to get involved by learning and practicing community-led safety:

AVP is committed to building a greater understanding of community-led safety, but we cannot do this work alone. We look forward to collaborating and celebrating this month in Pride and solidarity with all of you, as we show our Pride and work to ensure our safety!

Happy Pride Month!

Yours in service,

The AVP Team
