Responding To Xenophobia During The Spread Of Coronavirus

May 14, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Join AVP and the Center for Anti-violence Education for an upstander training in responding to and disrupting hate during the spread of COVID-19. This interactive two hour workshop addresses the ways that xenophobia and scapegoating since the COVID-19 outbreak continue to rise, most consistently against Asian communities. Workshop participants will look at the dangerous history of xenophobia in the United States against a cross-section of groups, and the ways that current public narratives and interpersonal acts are making living through the pandemic even scarier and more dangerous for Asian Americans. There will be interactive break-out groups for participants to explore opportunities and strategies to be “Upstanders” during the current moment and help disrupt this wave of anti-Asian bias, whether in-person or online.

Learn how to be a more effective ally and how to safely intervene, de-escalate and disrupt acts of discrimination, bias, and harassment.

Free for all. Email upstander@caeny.org for more information
