The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) respects the privacy of each individual who contacts us. As part of our commitment to safeguarding your privacy, we have adopted the online privacy policy outlined below.
Collection and use of information
Individually identifiable information
AVP does not collect personally identifiable information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. If you make a donation, register for an event, request to be added to our mailing list or e-newsletter distribution list, for example, we may collect your name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, and credit card information.
If you provide personal information, we may enter that information into our constituent database and contact you in order to:
- Supply you with information, including AVP news and services
- Extend invitations to events
- Request contributions to AVP
We use high-grade encryption and security protocols (Secure Socket Layer-SSL) when processing financial transactions. This method is the industry standard security protocol, which makes it difficult for anyone to intercept the information you send to us. At AVP, data is stored on password-protected servers. Our staff is educated about the importance of safeguarding your information. However, such precautions do not guarantee that our web site is invulnerable to all security breaks. AVP makes no warranty, guarantee or representation that the use of our web site is protected from viruses, security threats or other vulnerabilities and that your information will always be secure.
Information about contributions and events can be accessed by AVP’s development staff, communications staff, the Executive Director and board members. Information about our email and e-blast constituents can be accessed by AVP’s development and communication staff and the Executive Director.
Note: We also collect limited data from people who report violence to us through our secure, online reporting form. Information from individuals who contact us via email through our website regarding counseling and/or direct services is routed only to our Client Services department and is not shared with any other part of the agency. To opt out of the sharing of this information with any particular department and/or individual staff member, please contact us at webmaster@avp.org and specify which department and/or individual staff with whom you wish not to share information.
We retain all information for a minimum of seven years. You can update your information by contacting us here with a request to update and/or change any information.
Sharing Information with Others
AVP does not make our donor constituent mailing addresses available to other people or organizations.
Email Communications
We occasionally send out an email newsletter and direct email communications to Anti-Violence Project constituents to highlight news and information. You can elect not to receive communications from us by noting your preference in response to communications from us. In addition, all Anti-Violence Project e-newsletters have easy-to-follow unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email.
