NCAVP mourns the death of Gigi Pierce, a 28 year old transgender woman, who was shot late Monday evening on May 21, 2018 in Portland, OR. According to reports, there was an argument between Pierce and the suspect, 33 year old Sophia Adler, which then escalated to the unfortunate outcome. Adler remained at the scene and was then arrested by Portland police.
A witness, who was a friend of Pierce, said she was trying to provide assistance to Adler as she was known by many to help those in need, including at the shelter where Adler lived. This marks the 10th known homicide of a transgender person.
We send our love and care to Pierce’s friends and loved ones.
